چکیده

In this paper, we introduce an improved image transmission scheme over wireless channels with flat Rayleigh fading. The proposed scheme jointly optimizes bit power and modulation level to maximize the peak signal-tonoise ratio (PSNR) of the reconstructed image and hence improves the perceptual quality of the received image. In this optimization process, the significance of bits with regard to the overall quality of the image is exploited. The optimality of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated using the Lagrange method and verified through an iterative off line exhaustive search algorithm. For practical implementation, a look-up table is used at the transmitter for assigning the bit power and modulation level to each bit stream according to the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) observed at the receiver. The proposed scheme has low complexity since the look-up table is computed off line, only once, and used for any image which makes it suitable for devices with limited processing capability. Analytical and simulation results show that the proposed scheme with jointly optimized bit power and variable modulation level provides an improvement in PSNR of about 10 to 20 dB over fixed power fixed modulation (16-QAM). A further reduction in complexity is achieved by using the average signal-to-noise ratio rather than the instantaneous SNR in selecting the system parameters. Keywords— Image transmission, wireless channels, peak signal-to-noise ratio, variable modulation, power allocation.

As one of the promising approaches to increase the network capacity, Full-duplex (FD) communications have recently gained a remarkable attention. FD communication enables wireless nodes to simultaneously send and receive data through the same frequency band. Thanks to the recent achievements in the self-interference (SI) cancellation, this type of communication is expected to be potentially uti...

Jointly power and bandwidth allocation for a heterogeneous satellite network

Due to lack of resources such as transmission power and bandwidth in satellite systems, resource allocation problem is a very important challenge. Nowadays, new heterogeneous network includes one or more satellites besides terrestrial infrastructure, so that it is considered that each satellite has multi-beam to increase capacity. This type of structure is suitable for a new generation of commu...

A practical scheduling and power/constellation allocation for three relay networks

Relays are being deployed in both fourth generation cellular systems and wide metropolitan area networks in order to increase coverage and spectral efficiency. In this article, we consider a network with three half-duplex relays assisting the transmission from a source towards a destination. By assuming that transmission time consists of a sequence of phases, we develop a transmission scheme in...

Multiarea Transmission Cost Allocation in Large Power Systems Using the Nodal Pricing Control Approach

This paper proposes an algorithm for transmission cost allocation (TCA) in a large power system based on nodal pricing approach using the multi-area scheme. The nodal pricing approach is introduced to allocate the transmission costs by the control of nodal prices in a single area network. As the number of equations is dependent on the number of buses and generators, this method will be very ti...

This paper proposes a novel transmit power allocation for QAM modulated Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission. This technique consists of adapting the power allocation in the spatial domain in term of the channel conditions by the optimization process based on the optimality of the global Bit Error Rate (BER). Simulation results show sign...
